You are welcome to contact our residency office if you need any additional information or if you have any specific questions.

You are also encouraged to review this website and the special links to some very interesting opportunities, most of which are truly unique to our program such as:

The overarching goal for residency training is to prepare each resident with a solid grounding in internal medicine in an environment that strongly fosters intellectual curiosity and a spirit of inquiry. These goals are articulated in our mission statement.

We seek to train physicians who desire a generalist background to their careers in medicine, whether that career is as a general internist, a subspecialist, a practitioner, an educator or a researcher. A deep and broad foundation in internal medicine is essential for all of these career paths. We also believe that very few students have had enough exposure in medical school to know with certainty the exact niche of internal medicine and it’s subspecialties that best suits their personality, interests and talents. The patient care, educational and mentoring experiences of our residents provides a rich set of experiences and perspectives from which each resident can make the best personal career decision. The opportunity to work each year in a tertiary medical center at Yale-New Haven Hospital, a community hospital at Waterbury Hospital Health Center, and outpatient practice sites that include private practice offices and community health centers is unique in residency training. This broad exposure to physician role models and career opportunities indeed provides a rich context in which residents can make career decisions with confidence. Our graduates are highly sought after by private practice offices, hospitalist programs, and fellowship programs throughout the country.
