Preliminary Application Requirements (1 year training)
We offer two preliminary Internal Medicine Training Programs:
- Yale Internal Medicine "Primary Care" PRELIMINARY* Residency Program: NRMP # 1089140P1 and ACGME ID # 1400821496
- Yale Internal Medicine "Traditional" PRELIMINARY* Residency Program: NRMP # 1089140PO and ACMGE ID #1400821085
We participate in the National Residency Matching Program, and do not accept any applicants outside of the match.
We require students applying for a one-year preliminary internal medicine internship at Yale to apply to both of our preliminary internship programs. Recruitment for these programs are jointly coordinated and applying to both programs increases the opportunity for each applicant to obtain an internship in our Department.
Both preliminary Residency Programs are integrated into the core missions of our Department and have many areas of overlap while also offering unique training opportunities. Our Primary Care and Traditional Residency Programs provide outstanding clinical training and graduates are well prepared for their subsequent specialty training.
We offer four preliminary interview days.
Click on the links below for details about our two preliminary training programs.
Primary Care Residency Program
Traditional Residency Program
We do not offer private interviews outside our scheduled preliminary interview days. We do coordinate presentations and group interviews with the Anesthesiology and Neurology Departments at Yale on the day of an applicants’ interview with these Departments. Students who participate in these presentations and group interviews are not required to participate in a separate Department of Internal Medicine Interview day. We do require students participating in these group presentations and interviews to submit an ERAS application to both our preliminary programs.
