Yale Internal Medicine / Pediatrics Residency Training Program

Career Path of Graduates: 2002-2007

The first graduating class of the Yale Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program was in 2002. There have now been five graduating classes totaling 18 individuals. One resident changed career and completed training in internal medicine and another resident changed fields to emergency medicine, both transferred into residency programs at Yale. Graduates of the Yale Medicine/Pediatrics Residency have pursued a wide range of professional opportunities ranging from clinical practice to academic medicine to subspecialty training. Nationally, graduates of combined internal medicine/pediatrics residency programs pursue generalist careers at a higher rate than graduates of either pediatrics or internal medicine residency programs. Our graduates are successful in obtaining subspecialty fellowships in the most competitive programs in both adult medicine and pediatrics.

Comments From Recent Graduates

“Not only have I learned to be a better doctor through your constant teaching, I have also learned from each of you how to be a more complete, balanced, and happy person. I look forward to clinic every week, and I drive home with a smile on my face.”

“Thanks to all the supervising physicians who had high expectations and provided the mentorship for exceeding those expectations.”

“Surrounding yourself with smart, charismatic people is the best way to learn. Thanks to my fellow Med-Peds residents that I have worked with over the past few years. You have consistently reminded me how great it is to speak the languages of both pediatrics and medicine.”

“Thank you all so much for the support you have given me throughout residency. I aspire to the greatness that has surrounded me in this program.”

“…thank you for your education and support. Your endless enthusiasm for pushing us to find our own answers, for taking the time to explain things yet another time, and for showing us how to be caring physicians has been invaluable. I can only hope to be as dedicated, hard-working, and compassionate a doctor as you are in my own career.”

“What attracted me to this med-peds program was the people, what I will miss the most will be the people!”

“…have also been to me the very models of modern medical instructors: generous with their time, gentle in their demeanor, steady in their encouragement, wise in their advice, honorable in their conduct, demanding in their expectations, and kind in all things.”

“Whether it was career advice I needed, or words to improve the general health of my soul – I found it…”
