ABIM Research Pathway Application Requirements (short track)

For those students who are committed to post-residency subspecialty fellowship training with a major focus on a research career, we encourage you to consider the ABIM Research Pathway which we offer as a track within our Traditional Residency Program.

Application Process
We encourage applicants with strong commitments to research careers to apply for the Yale Physician-Scientist Residency Pathway at the time of application for internal medicine residency training. In addition to the usual application submitted through ERAS, applicants for the Yale Physician-Scientist Research Pathway should send an email with the following information:

  1. Statement of interest in the Yale Physician-Scientist Residency Pathway
  2. Areas of possible subspecialty interest so that appropriate interviews with fellowship program(s) can be arranged at the time of residency interviews.
  3. Names of Yale faculty identified as possible research mentors (not required).

Applicants will be offered admission to the Yale Physician-Scientist Residency Pathway through the regular Match process for the categorical internal medicine residency program. There is not a separate Match listing for the Physician-Scientist Residency Pathway at Yale. However, prior to the date of submission of their residency match lists, selected applicants will receive offers of admission into the Yale Physician-Scientist Research Pathway that guarantee they will be listed to match for internal medicine residency training at Yale.

Please see the ABIM Research Pathway (Yale Physician-Scientist Residency Pathway) page for more information.
